Attention! Budapest Airport shuttle bus 100E operating hours change

The operating hours of the 100E bus transporting passengers between Budapest downtown and the Liszt Ferenc International Airport will change significantly from August. The bus route was introduced in July 2017, and operating hours have been extended ever since.

According to airportal.hu, the 100E bus will commute more frequently and 24/7 between the Deák Ferenc Square and the Budapest Airport. The Budapest Transport Company (BKK) wrote in their announcement that the bus was only available with the Airport shuttle bus single ticket. That costs 1500 HUF (3.71 EUR), and no other types of tickets or passes are valid. Beforehand, 100E buses did not commute between 1 am and 3 am. Passengers could use bus route 200E in that period.

The main difference between the 100E and 200E is that the latter can be used by everybody having a ticket or a Budapest season ticket. Therefore, it is more crowded most of the time than the 100E. Furthermore, 200E has more stops and commutes only between the KÅ‘bánya-Kispest metro station and the airport. That route lasts 23 minutes. According to the BKK’s announcement, the operating hours of the 200E bus will not change.

Meanwhile, 100E operates as an airport shuttle, having only downtown stops. These are Deák Ferenc Square, Astoria and Kálvin Square metro stations. Furthermore, it takes the bus to complete the route between the heart of Budapest and the airport in less than 40 minutes. BKK announced it would increase the 100E’s frequency since its utilisation rate is high.

From 1 August, the buses will commute every 7-9 minutes instead of the previous 10 minutes on Monday, Friday and Sunday. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the 10-12 minutes follow-ups will decrease to 10 minutes. On Saturday, that will modify from 10-12 mins to 8-10 mins. From midnight until 3.30 am, buses will commute every 30-40 minutes.

BKK says that the coronavirus pandemic set Budapest’s tourism and the utilisation of the 100E bus route back. Thanks to the end of the restrictions, tourists returned to the Hungarian capital this summer.
